The pen is a beautiful thing but rarely used. I wrote several letters with it around the time I found it in a junk shop a couple of years ago, but slipped back onto the keyboard as the cost of postage climbed. The ruler is made from ebony and serves ledger keepers, or at least did, back when such folk needed a ruler that wouldn't cause the ink to run and smudge their work. It's dense wood and would be great for beating off debtors or anyone else intent on disturbing the work of a ledger writer.
